Can my customers mess up my design?

No. Your customers cannot change the design. You do the design, your customer puts in the content.

Do I need to install any software?

No. Neither you or your customer have to install any software. Everything is done online using a regular browser. You must use IE 5.5 or above on a Windows PC (not a Mac) in order to edit the site, but you can use any browser or platform to view the published website.

Can I stop my customers accidentally deleting stuff?

Yes. You can "protect" images, files sections or pages so that the customer cannot delete them.

Does the customer's website come from a database?

No. The published site is flat HTML, which means that it is very quick to load, it gets indexed by search engines and it gets cached by the browser. Database driven websites are often slower because each page has to be generated individually.

Can I mix updateable and static content?

Yes. You can let 123live! produce the whole website or you can publish 123live! to a subdirectory and link to updateable pages from your own "hard-wired" pages. Content within the 123live! pages can be editable or non-editable - it's up to you.

Will it cramp my style?

No. You build regular HTML pages using your favourite tool (such as Dreamweaver), then put in special tags where you want the user to be able to change the content.

Can my customers upload files?

Yes. We have made this very easy to do. Any type of file can be uploaded, so your customers can include images, spreadsheets, Word documents, PDF documents or even sound files or Flash movies.

Content management systems are often very slow, is yours any better?

Yes. 123live! is very, very quick. Other products require a page refresh whenever you change anything, which slows things right down and puts customers off. 123live! uses an innovative technique whereby changes are sent to the server in the background, and, once 123live! is loaded, all the pages are built within the browser rather than loading from the server. The effect is such that users will think they are using a desktop application.

Publishing the site is much quicker than using PC-based web design software because the files are transferred from our high speed servers to the web server at network speed, rather than having to crawl along a dialup or ADSL link. Picture resizing and rotation is also done on our servers, so there is no need for images to be uploaded more than once.
