Search engine optimisation:

What if I change my domain name?

There are many reasons that you may want to change your domain name, but it has to be done in the right way, otherwise you will lose your precious Google Page Rank and other ranking factors.

Use a '301 permanent redirect'

This is what Google's Webmaster help has to say:

"If you want to merge or move a site, a 301 redirect is really the only solution.  A 301 redirect will transfer PageRank and most other ranking factors to the destination URL, however, you should be prepared for at least a temporary drop in your overall search engine rankings as the search engines discover and absorb the changes.  For more information, see Google's advice."
